Vuelta Americana 2008
Monday, 14.04.2008

We are happy to inform that TS2 Satellite Technologies supports yet another ambitious expedition. This time we shall explore the land of the former Children of the Sun Empire. Vuelta is a Spanish word for a "loop". During the expedition, which is scheduled between April and June 2008 Andrzej Muszyński will close a loop around the South American continent, completing the following stages of the trip.

Information obtained from the expedition organisers:
  1. Chile. Solo Atacama traverse from the San Pedro de Atacama oasis to the Pacific Ocean (around 300 km), going through the Great Salar and the Domeyko Cordillera.
  2. Bolivia. Traversing the Apolobamba range, the kingdom of condors, which still remains mostly uncharted, with only sketch maps of the region available. The region is famous for its spectacular mountain panoramas and picturesque Indian settlements. Together with a group of friends, andinists from La Paz, we will try to conquer Chaupi Orco, the highest peak of the range (6044 m above sea level) taking the southern trail.
  3. Brasilia and Argentina. After the hardships of the expedition and the sport achievements, I shall now concentrate on cultural studies. Nice and scenic accent crowning the expedition shall be the flight on the paraglider from the top of Pedra Bonita in Rio de Janeiro.
A lot will depend on the pure luck, the circumstances and situation I will encounter in South America. I would not like to strip my expedition of the spontaneity. I will do my best to fulfil all elements of the plan, but I will not sacrifice its charm.

A lot has changed in South America in the recent years. Nowadays, the native Indian people's voice, for years mostly ignored, is more often heard. One may say that it is the most dynamic, unpredictable continent on Earth. So a lot depends on what will happen there during the expedition. I will not shun from the contacts with natives. I would like to spend as much time as possible with them, talking about their problems, dilemmas and hopes.

However this expedition has mainly a personal dimension. During a sole peregrination through Latin America, while travelling through the desert and during the mountain climbs, I would like to make one of the most important decisions before I definitively enter the adulthood. I shall certainly have the most favourable circumstances to do so.
