Inmarsat's new premium video streaming service - is now available across the globe. The service offers the world's fastest on-demand video streaming via satellite. BGAN X-Stream guarantees streaming data rates from a minimum of 384kbps to around 450kbps and is accessible through existing hardware - single, highly-compact and lightweight BGAN terminals - without the need for external antenna or any additional hardware.

Drew Brandy, head of land mobile services at Inmarsat, said: "No matter where the story breaks, the global reach of BGAN X-Stream will deliver higher quality video to the studio."

The launch of BGAN X-Stream's global coverage was celebrated at events in Singapore this month.

The service was one of the first technologies showcased at a new Broadcast Innovation Centre opened by Inmarsat partner SingTel, and featured on Inmarsat's stand at the annual CommunicAsia conference and exhibition, which attracted more than 47,000 visitors from around the world.

Live coverage

Broadcasters all over the world have been quick take advantage of the new premium video streaming service.

Global satellite TV news channel Al Jazeera English was the first media organisation to use BGAN X-Stream to broadcast live video to cover military developments in Pakistan in early May.

BGAN X-Stream

BGAN X-Stream is Inmarsat’s new premium IP streaming service. It guarantees streaming data rates from a minimum of 384kbps up to approximately 450kbps, on demand. These are the fastest on demand streaming rates in the world of mobile satellite communications.

Now, using a single, highly compact, lightweight BGAN terminal, you can deliver even higher quality video back to the studio when broadcasting remotely. There is no need for an external antenna or any additional hardware - just use your existing Hughes HNS 9201 or Thrane & Thrane EXPLORER™ 700 terminal.
